Sacramento, Calif. – Hot, dry, and gusty conditions could trigger new fire starts across Northern California Friday and Saturday, especially in the Sacramento Valley, Delta, and lower Sierra foothills.
According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, wind speeds could reach up to 30 mph in gusts, with minimum daytime humidity plunging to 10–20%—and even lower in some areas. Friday’s winds will come from the north at 10–15 mph, while Saturday shifts southerly with stronger gusts. The elevated fire risk is classified as minor, but conditions will still make ignition and fire spread more likely.
Areas of concern include grassy rural zones near Stockton, Yuba City, and the western Sierra foothills. Fire officials are urging residents to avoid parking on dry vegetation, properly dispose of cigarettes and matches, and delay using outdoor equipment that may spark.
The conditions follow a drier-than-average spring and echo similar early-season fire concerns seen in 2021. With summer heat building, early fire starts could strain resources.
Fire weather conditions are expected to ease by Sunday, but residents should stay alert. Further advisories may be issued if humidity continues to drop or winds increase.
