Desert Center, CA – A 3.6 magnitude earthquake shook an area 20 km northwest of Desert Center on Sunday. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed the event occurred at 1:53 p.m. local time at a depth of 4.6 km.
According to USGS data, the earthquake prompted eight reports from residents who felt the tremor. The impact was recorded as minor, with most reporting light shaking. An interactive map showed the epicenter positioned in a remote region east of Los Angeles.
Hours later, a 3.1 magnitude earthquake struck 26 km southeast of Rio Dell in northern California at 9:35 p.m. local time. This earthquake reached a depth of 30.2 km, according to USGS. Only two individuals reported feeling this quake, which was also classified as low intensity.
Both events reflect ongoing seismic activity in California, a state prone to earthquakes due to tectonic plate boundaries. While these recent tremors were not severe, authorities remind residents to review emergency preparedness plans. No injuries or significant damage were reported for either incident.
