California – Early Saturday, two minor earthquakes shook parts of Southern California. Residents reported feeling tremors near Malibu and Cabazon, though no significant damage was reported.
The first earthquake, a magnitude 2.7, struck 6 kilometers north of Malibu around 3:28 a.m. local time. It occurred at a depth of 9.9 kilometers. The second earthquake hit Cabazon at 6:01 a.m. It measured 2.9 in magnitude and occurred at a depth of 17.4 kilometers.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, several residents reported feeling the quakes, but no injuries were recorded. The earthquakes’ intensity reached levels three and four on the Community Internet Intensity Map, prompting the “Did You Feel It?” survey.
Officials encourage those who felt the tremors to report their experiences. Collecting this data helps researchers better understand regional seismic activity. Minor earthquakes are common in Southern California due to its proximity to several fault lines.
While these quakes caused no damage, residents are reminded to stay prepared for future seismic events.
