San Lucas, CA – A minor earthquake struck 22 kilometers east-northeast of San Lucas on Monday, leaving some residents on edge.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported the magnitude 2.8 quake occurred at 7:20 a.m. Pacific time. It originated at a depth of 6.5 kilometers, causing minor shaking in the region. While the earthquake was small, tremors were reportedly felt in nearby areas.
According to USGS data, earthquakes of this size typically do not cause significant damage but serve as a reminder of California’s seismic activity. Residents are encouraged to report their experiences on the USGS “Did You Feel It?” page to contribute to citizen science efforts.
No damage or injuries have been reported at this time. Officials remind residents to stay prepared with emergency kits and earthquake plans, as larger seismic events can occur without warning.
California averages hundreds of minor earthquakes each year, underscoring the importance of readiness. Experts suggest securing furniture and practicing drills to reduce risk during stronger quakes.
