San Francisco, CA – Drivers in the Bay Area face challenging conditions Thursday morning due to a Dense Fog Advisory in effect until noon. Visibility is expected to drop below a quarter mile in several areas, including San Francisco, Santa Clara Valley, and the North and East Bay interior valleys.
According to the National Weather Service, dense fog is affecting major roadways, including US-101, I-580, and I-880, creating hazardous travel conditions. Commuters should reduce speeds, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra stopping distance. Sudden visibility changes are likely, especially in low-lying areas and near the shoreline.
The advisory is part of a broader weather pattern impacting the Bay Area. After the fog lifts, Thursday will bring mostly sunny skies with highs near 61°F. However, patchy fog may return Thursday night into Friday morning, followed by a significant shift in weather heading into the weekend.
Friday will remain dry but cloudy, with rain arriving late Friday night and continuing into Saturday. Forecasters predict a 100% chance of rain Saturday, with potential totals nearing half an inch. Temperatures will hover in the low 60s during the day and drop to the low 50s at night. Sunday may bring additional scattered showers and areas of fog.
Residents near the coast should also be aware of a Beach Hazards Statement in effect through Thursday afternoon. Sneaker waves and strong rip currents are expected along the coastline, posing risks to beachgoers.
