Eureka, CA – Coastal areas of Northern California are under a Beach Hazards Statement through early Saturday morning, with a heightened risk of sneaker wavesalong the shoreline. Beachgoers should use extreme caution, as large waves can unexpectedly sweep people into the ocean.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Eureka, the advisory affects Coastal Del Norte, Northern Humboldt, and Mendocino counties until 3 a.m. Saturday. Sneaker waves are unpredictable and can surge suddenly, knocking over unsuspecting visitors and carrying them into dangerous waters. These waves can also move heavy logs, creating additional hazards.

Officials warn residents and visitors to avoid jetties, steep beaches, and rocky outcrops where the risk of being caught off guard is higher. Anyone near the ocean should stay far back from the waterline and never turn their back on the waves.

The forecast for the weekend includes mild temperatures and scattered showers, with a high near 60°F on Sunday. Rain chances remain high through Monday before drier conditions return Tuesday.
