Burlington, VT – Lingering rain and snow showers will continue across northern Vermont and northern New York tonight into Friday, according to the National Weather Service Burlington office. While these showers will remain scattered and relatively light, they may create occasional slick spots across higher terrain early Friday morning.
A brief window of dry weather arrives Saturday as a temporary ridge moves over the region. Most locations across Vermont, the Adirondacks, and the Champlain Valley are expected to remain precipitation-free through the day, giving residents a short break before the next weather-maker arrives.
By Sunday, a more organized storm system is forecast to spread widespread precipitation across the region. Forecast graphics show high probabilities of rain in lower elevations and a mix of rain, snow, and wintry weather in the mountains and foothills. Locations such as St. Albans, Montpelier, Morrisville, and the Northeast Kingdom may see mixed precipitation at times, while the Champlain Valley is more likely to experience mainly rain.
Snow showers may increase Sunday night in elevated areas as temperatures cool. Confidence is high that nearly all of northern New England will see some form of precipitation Sunday, though exact timing and precipitation type will depend on local temperatures.
Travelers should keep an eye on updated forecasts, especially those heading through mountain passes or higher elevation routes.
