Burlington, Vt. – High heat and humidity will blanket the Champlain Valley on Sunday, with temperatures climbing into the mid-90s and heat indices pushing even higher. A Heat Advisory is in effect from noon to 8 p.m., prompting officials to urge residents to take extra precautions.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, the advisory covers much of northwest Vermont, including Burlington, Middlebury, and surrounding communities. Sunday afternoon will bring the most dangerous conditions, with limited overnight relief due to persistent humidity. The heat will be especially risky for older adults, children, and those without access to air conditioning.

Road crews, outdoor workers, and event organizers across the region should prepare for slowed operations and ensure hydration stations are available. Officials recommend limiting outdoor activity, staying in air-conditioned buildings, and checking on vulnerable neighbors.

This marks one of the hottest stretches of the summer so far and mirrors similar heat surges seen during July 2022. Though no power outages are currently reported, utility companies advise reducing energy use where possible.

The Heat Advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. Sunday. Additional alerts may follow if the heat persists into early next week.
