Brattleboro, Vt. – Strong to severe thunderstorms may develop across central and southern Vermont on Friday, potentially bringing damaging winds, lightning, and heavy rain during the afternoon commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, the highest risk for isolated severe storms will occur between noon and 7 p.m. Friday, June 6. The greatest threat zone includes towns like Barre, Montpelier, Lebanon, Rutland, and Brattleboro, with a slight risk designation issued by the Storm Prediction Center.
Any storm that intensifies could produce hazardous weather capable of downing trees or power lines and causing localized flash flooding. Travelers along I-89, US Route 4, and Route 7 should stay alert to changing weather conditions and avoid driving through flooded roads.
Highs on Friday will remain warm, in the 75–80°F range, but cooler than earlier in the week. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge electronic devices, and monitor NOAA weather radio or Weather.gov/Burlington for any watches or warnings that may be issued during the day.
Storm chances taper after sunset, but additional advisories could follow as the weekend approaches.
