Buffalo, N.Y. – Dangerous heat and humidity will peak across western and central New York on Sunday, with apparent temperatures nearing 100°F in parts of the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, heat index values will climb into the mid to upper 90s Sunday afternoon in cities including Rochester, Geneva, and Fulton. While actual temperatures will sit in the upper 80s and low 90s, oppressive humidity will push “feels like” conditions higher, especially between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Buffalo and Lockport could see heat indices near 95°F, while areas like Dansville and Wellsville are expected to top out around 98°F. Scattered showers and thunderstorms may develop over the Southern Tier and interior Finger Lakes later Saturday, but most of the weekend will remain dry.
Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours, and check on elderly neighbors. Those without air conditioning should seek cooling centers or shaded spaces, especially Sunday afternoon.
The heat will ease slightly by Monday morning, but above-average warmth continues into early next week. Additional advisories may be issued if storm activity or temperatures escalate.
