Buffalo, NY – Western New York residents are in for a mixed bag of winter weather this weekend as light snow showers continue tonight, with rain and snow expected to develop by Saturday.
The National Weather Service reports that snow accumulation tonight will be light, primarily in the Southern Tier and Boston Hills, with up to an inch possible. Flurries are expected to taper off early Friday, giving way to mostly cloudy skies and a high of 34°F. Drivers on roadways such as I-90 and Route 219 should be cautious of icy conditions and reduced visibility.
Saturday brings a new weather system to the region, starting with rain in the morning before transitioning to a wintry mix in the afternoon. Daytime temperatures will reach 40°F, but roads could become slick as rain combines with snow. Minimal snow accumulation is expected, but gusty winds may complicate travel.
Looking ahead, colder air returns Sunday night with lows dropping to 8°F and snow showers lingering into Monday. Residents should prepare for fluctuating road conditions and colder temperatures throughout the long weekend.
