Buffalo, NY – Residents across parts of western New York could see damaging winds, large hail, and torrential downpours this evening as a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect through 10 p.m. Monday for Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Allegany counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, the primary concerns include wind gusts over 60 mph, quarter-sized hail, and heavy rainfall capable of reducing visibility and flooding low-lying roads. Forecasters warn that a few isolated tornadoes also can’t be ruled out, particularly in the Southern Tier.

Chautauqua and Olean are among the towns in the storm zone, with Route 60 and Interstate 86 likely to see hazardous travel during peak evening hours. Emergency managers advise residents to secure outdoor items, charge electronic devices, and avoid non-essential travel after sunset.

This system comes amid a stretch of unstable June weather and could be the strongest to hit the region since last summer. Alerts may be upgraded if rotation signatures or flood risks intensify.

The watch is set to expire at 10 p.m., but additional warnings could follow if conditions worsen. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts for immediate updates.
