Buffalo, NY – A large low-pressure system is set to bring measurable snowfall to Western New York starting Wednesday night, with colder air moving across the region into Friday. Buffalo and Rochester may come close to breaking records for the latest first snowflakes of the season, with Buffalo’s record standing at November 22 and Rochester’s at November 20.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Buffalo office, areas near the lakes will experience rain transitioning to snow as temperatures drop. Snowfall is expected to be most significant in higher elevations east of the lakes, with Buffalo and Jamestown having a 50% chance of measurable snow. The best chances for snow will occur Thursday night into Friday morning.

Travelers should prepare for potentially slippery conditions, particularly along I-90 and secondary roads in the region. NWS advises commuters to monitor weather updates and exercise caution, especially during nighttime hours when snow accumulation could increase.

Wednesday’s forecast calls for rain likely transitioning to snow late at night, with temperatures dropping to the mid-30s. Thursday and Friday will bring highs in the low 40s, with consistent chances for rain and snow showers. The weekend remains cold, with precipitation likely continuing into Saturday.
