Buffalo, N.Y. – Temperatures across western and central New York will climb sharply through midweek, peaking in the mid to upper 80s by Wednesday as dry, summerlike air settles over the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a high-pressure ridge moving from the Ohio Valley toward the East Coast is driving this warming trend. Highs Tuesday will reach the upper 70s to low 80s, but Wednesday could bring 87°F in Rochester, 86°F in Olean and Dansville, and 85°F in Buffalo and Jamestown.

Cities like Watertown and Fulton will also see noticeable warmth, reaching into the low 80s. This stretch of hot, dry weather will feel more like July than early June, prompting advice to stay hydrated and limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours.

Rain chances increase late Wednesday night into Thursday as a cold front moves through, bringing showers and isolated thunderstorms. Temperatures will gradually return to near-normal levels in the low to mid-70s by Friday.

Expect more updates from the NWS as the front approaches midweek. Some thunderstorm activity may include gusty winds or brief downpours.
