Bowling Green, Ky. – Severe storms are expected to hammer parts of south-central and eastern Kentucky through 9 p.m. Friday, with Bowling Green, Lexington, and surrounding areas facing the greatest threat of damaging winds and large hail.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a fast-moving line of thunderstorms will push eastward across the state between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. EDT. The most dangerous conditions are expected in areas marked under an “Enhanced Risk,” which includes Bowling Green, Elizabethtown, and parts of the Bluegrass region. Straight-line winds exceeding 60 mph are the primary concern, though near-severe hail is also possible. Scattered lightning and isolated power outages are also likely.
Cities including Glasgow, Campbellsville, and Richmond may see downed trees and hazardous driving conditions during the evening commute. Drivers are urged to delay travel if possible, secure loose outdoor items, and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts. Residents in mobile homes or vulnerable structures should have a safety plan ready.
The line of storms is expected to weaken after sunset, though scattered rain showers may linger into Saturday morning. Additional watches or warnings could be issued later today as conditions evolve.
