Boise, Idaho – Snowfall across the Boise area is off to its slowest start on record this winter, placing the current season at the bottom of historical totals dating back more than a century.

According to the National Weather Service in Boise, cumulative snowfall for the 2025–26 season currently sits at just 0.1 inches. Snow records in Boise date back to 1899, and forecasters noted that the city is presently tracking at the lowest cumulative snowfall total for this point in the season.

A long-term comparison graphic shared by the agency shows the current season running well below the historical average and even beneath past low-snow years. The average Boise snow season typically accumulates more than 20 inches by spring, while last winter had already received more than 13 inches by this time.

For context, Boise’s snowiest season on record occurred during 1916–17 with 50 inches, while the least snowy full season was 1933–34 with just over one inch. The current season’s trajectory remains below both benchmarks to date.

The National Weather Service emphasized that snowfall can still increase rapidly later in the winter, as January through March historically account for the bulk of seasonal accumulation. However, the slow start highlights how unusual the early winter pattern has been so far.

Residents are encouraged to monitor future forecasts as winter progresses and conditions evolve.
