El Paso, TX – Residents across southern New Mexico and western Texas should prepare for dangerous winds and blowing dust as a High Wind Warning and Blowing Dust Advisory remain in effect through Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in El Paso, a Blowing Dust Advisory is in place from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. MDT Thursday, impacting areas including El Paso, the Tularosa Basin, and the Sacramento Mountains. Visibility may drop to as low as a quarter-mile due to blowing dust, making travel hazardous. Drivers are urged to pull aside and turn off their lights if caught in low-visibility conditions.
The High Wind Warning begins at 6 p.m. Thursday and continues until noon Friday, with west winds of 35 to 45 mph and gusts reaching up to 75 mph. The strongest gusts are expected in the Sacramento Mountains and the Eastern Black Range Foothills, including Hillsboro and Winston.
