Randolph County, WV – A powerful blizzard is forecast to sweep through Southeast Randolph and Northwest Pocahontas Counties starting Wednesday night. Heavy snow and wind gusts of up to 55 mph are expected to create treacherous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the blizzard warning will take effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday and last until 4 p.m. Thursday. Residents can expect snow accumulations between 4 and 8 inches, with visibility dropping below a quarter mile at times. Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, will become slick and hazardous.
Authorities urge residents to avoid travel unless necessary. If travel is unavoidable, carry an emergency kit with food, water, and blankets. Whiteout conditions could make roads impassable, especially during the Thursday morning commute.
Strong winds may also cause power outages, and temperatures are expected to plummet, creating additional risks.
Be prepared for severe weather and check on neighbors who may need assistance.
