Charleston, WV – A major winter storm is expected to blanket parts of West Virginia with heavy snow and strong winds starting Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the storm is forecasted to bring 6 to 20 inches of snow to areas in Northwest Randolph, Southeast Fayette, and Webster counties. The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 7 a.m. Thursday to 7 p.m. Saturday. Winds are expected to gust as high as 45 mph, significantly reducing visibility and causing dangerous travel conditions.
Travel may become impossible in some regions, with visibility dropping below a quarter mile due to blowing snow. The NWS warns of potential power outages as the combination of snow weight and high winds may damage trees and power lines. Drivers are advised to carry emergency supplies, including flashlights, food, and water, in case of extended delays or emergencies.
The storm’s heaviest snowfall is anticipated Friday morning, with conditions gradually improving Saturday evening. Residents should avoid non-essential travel and monitor updates from local officials.
