Albany, NY – Post-Thanksgiving travel could be challenging across parts of New York as snow continues into Friday morning, with accumulations reaching up to 8 inches in higher elevations. Travelers are advised to prepare for potentially hazardous conditions, particularly along I-87 and other major routes.
The National Weather Service’s winter weather advisory remains in effect until 1 a.m. Friday for eastern New York, including the Capital District, southern Vermont, and western Massachusetts. Snowfall totals of 2 to 6 inches are expected in most areas, with heavier accumulations in the Taconic and Berkshire mountain ranges. Mixed rain and snow early Thursday will transition to steady snow by the afternoon, leading to slippery roads during peak travel hours.
Black Friday shoppers and other travelers should plan for slowdowns and icy conditions on untreated surfaces. Temperatures will rise to the low 40s Friday afternoon, helping to improve road conditions, but morning hours may still be treacherous.
The weekend offers relief with dry, sunny weather and highs in the upper 30s to low 40s. However, drivers are urged to remain cautious, especially on shaded or elevated roadways where ice may persist.
