Peachtree City, GA – A significant drop in temperatures will sweep across Georgia this weekend, with daytime highs barely reaching 50°F and nighttime lows plunging into the mid-20s. Residents along the I-85 corridor, including Atlanta and Peachtree City, should brace for sharp winds and freezing conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, Friday’s cold front is 15-20 degrees cooler than Thursday’s temperatures. Highs today will peak around 47°F under clear skies, with winds gusting up to 25 mph. Tonight, temperatures will fall rapidly, with lows nearing 26°F, creating frost hazards for drivers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Saturday offers some relief with sunny skies and a slightly warmer high of 50°F. However, the clear skies at night will allow for another sharp drop to 26°F, prompting concerns for those traveling early Sunday morning. Temperatures in the North Georgia mountains may struggle to rise above the 30s throughout the weekend, increasing the risk of frost on elevated roads and bridges.
The extended forecast shows sunny conditions through Monday, with daytime highs rising modestly to 54°F by Sunday. Overnight lows will remain freezing, dropping to 22°F Monday night. By midweek, temperatures will climb into the mid-50s, and Thursday could reach 61°F, signaling a brief warming trend.
Residents are encouraged to protect plants, pets, and pipes during the freezing nights. Drivers should exercise caution on bridges and overpasses, as frost can develop overnight. Bundle up if venturing outdoors, especially early in the morning or late at night.
