New York wakes up to light snow and mist swirling across the Southern Tier, and roads in Binghamton could turn slick quickly as steadier bands develop this afternoon. Temperatures hover near 30 degrees, cold enough for accumulation on untreated pavement and sidewalks.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 1 p.m. today until 7 p.m. Monday for Broome, Chenango and Madison counties in New York, and Bradford County in Pennsylvania. Total snowfall between 2 and 7 inches is expected, with gusts up to 35 mph creating blowing and drifting snow into Monday.

Snow becomes steadier by midafternoon, with new accumulation increasing through the evening hours. Winds strengthen after dark, reducing visibility on I-81 and Route 17. Plan extra time if traveling. Slow down and leave room between vehicles.

Monday brings additional snow showers, especially during the morning commute. Highs reach near 31 degrees before colder air pushes in Monday night. Any melting during daylight hours may refreeze quickly after sunset, raising the risk of flash freezing on bridges and secondary roads.

By Tuesday, skies partially clear with a high near 23 degrees. Another round of snow likely arrives Tuesday night into Wednesday, when highs rebound toward the upper 30s. A gradual warming trend builds late week, with highs climbing into the mid-40s by Saturday, hinting at early spring vibes.
