San Francisco, CA – A strong Pacific storm system is expected to move into the Bay Area by midweek, bringing gusty winds, periods of rain, and a slight chance of thunderstorms across Northern and Central California.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Bay Area, the system will begin impacting the region late Tuesday night into Wednesday, with the North Bay and coastal hills at the greatest risk for heavier rainfall and strong wind gusts exceeding 40 mph. The forecast also notes a 10–20% chance of isolated thunderstorms, especially in areas north of San Francisco.

The NWS rainfall outlook shows probabilities up to 70% for one inch or more of rain near Cloverdale and around 36% near San Francisco, tapering to lighter totals further south. Impacts could include wet roadways, elevated stream levels, and minor urban flooding in low-lying areas.

Forecasters caution that confidence in the storm’s track and intensity remains moderate, meaning totals could shift as the system approaches. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, clear drains and gutters, and prepare for possible power outages caused by downed trees or power lines.

Motorists should anticipate slippery roads and difficult driving for high-profile vehicles, particularly along coastal and elevated routes.
