Austin, Texas – Flash flooding could hit Central Texas hard through early Sunday afternoon, as a Flood Watch remains in effect until 1 p.m. CDT for the Hill Country and areas along and east of the I-35 corridor, including Austin, San Antonio, and New Braunfels.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, an additional 2 to 4 inches of rain is expected across the region, with isolated pockets receiving up to 10 inches. Excessive runoff could lead to flash flooding, particularly in low-lying areas, rivers, creeks, and low water crossings.

Cities like Georgetown, Fredericksburg, and Kyle are under heightened risk, especially near flood-prone roads and rural crossings. Motorists should avoid travel where possible and never attempt to cross flooded roadways. The NWS urges residents to “Turn around, don’t drown” and remain alert for potential Flash Flood Warnings.

This system follows a stretch of drier-than-average summer weather, increasing the risk of rapid runoff. With rainfall expected to fall in short bursts, localized flooding may occur quickly and without much warning.

Flood Watch conditions remain active through Sunday afternoon. Further warnings may be issued as conditions evolve.
