Atlanta, GA – After weeks of dry weather, Georgia is finally in line for a soaking rain early this week. According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, a storm system moving in from Alabama late Sunday night will bring widespread rainfall through Tuesday evening, with high confidence (over 80%) in at least one inch of accumulation across much of the state.

Forecasters expect rainfall totals between 1 and 1.5 inches, with the heaviest amounts likely across northern and central Georgia. The National Weather Service notes this will be the best chance for significant rain in over a month, though it won’t be enough to fully end the ongoing drought conditions.

The rain should hold off until late Sunday, allowing most weekend plans to continue uninterrupted before showers increase overnight. Drivers are advised to watch for ponding on roads and reduced visibility during Monday morning and Tuesday commutes.

While the rainfall will bring short-term relief for lawns, farms, and water systems, meteorologists caution that additional storms will still be needed to reverse the area’s long-term dryness.
