Las Vegas, NV – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the Eastern Sierra Slopes from 7 p.m. this evening through 10 a.m. Friday, with forecasters warning of accumulating snow and gusty winds that may affect high-elevation travel.
According to the National Weather Service, elevations between 8,500 and 9,500 feet may receive up to 4 inches of snow, while areas above 9,500 feet could see 4–12 inches. Wind gusts up to 50 mph are expected overnight, which may produce periods of blowing snow and reduced visibility along mountain roads.
Impacts are most likely along Highway 168 near Aspendell, where slick and snow-covered conditions could develop after sunset. Communities near Whitney Portal and the higher terrain of the Eastern Sierra should prepare for rapidly changing weather and potential delays.
Forecasters note that uncertainty remains regarding the storm’s exact timing, snow levels, and total snowfall amounts. Adjustments to the forecast are possible as the system evolves. Regardless of exact totals, travel hazards are likely through Friday morning for anyone heading into the higher elevations.
Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and monitor road updates via Caltrans at 1-800-427-7623. Wind gusts may also make driving difficult for high-profile vehicles overnight.
With snow levels fluctuating through the night, officials recommend exercising caution and being prepared for sudden weather shifts along the Sierra slopes.
