Little Rock, AR – A Spring weather alert is in effect across much of Arkansas today, as strong thunderstorms, damaging winds, and hail are expected to impact the region. The National Weather Service has issued a slight risk for severe weather, with the main threats being strong winds and large hail.
According to the NWS, conditions will be most hazardous this afternoon and evening as storms develop across central and southern Arkansas. As thunderstorms intensify, gusts of wind up to 50 mph could cause localized damage, particularly in open fields and along highways. Flash flooding is another concern, especially in areas that have experienced significant rainfall in recent days. Be cautious if traveling along highways, including Interstate 40 and U.S. Route 67, as these roads may experience reduced visibility or water accumulation. Drivers should stay alert to rapidly changing conditions.
Thunderstorms will likely continue through the evening, affecting areas like Little Rock, Hot Springs, and Texarkana. These storms could bring brief, intense bursts of rain that may cause localized flooding, particularly in low-lying areas. The risk of a spin-up tornado also exists, though it is low.
Looking ahead to the next few days, the unsettled weather pattern will persist. Friday, showers and thunderstorms remain likely, with the chance of severe weather continuing. High winds and large hail will be the main hazards. Temperatures will remain mild, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s.
