Little Rock, AR – Bitterly cold temperatures gripped Arkansas this morning, with lows in the teens and 20s across much of the state. Wind chills in northwest Arkansas dropped to single digits, making outdoor conditions dangerously cold. Residents are urged to dress warmly and limit exposure to the frigid air.
According to the National Weather Service, wind speeds reached up to 25 mph in parts of the state, pushing the “feels like” temperature to 12 degrees in Little Rock. The cold snap will persist into Tuesday, with daytime highs reaching the mid-30s. Overnight temperatures are forecast to dip into the low 20s, with clear skies offering no insulation from the chill.
Drivers should take precautions, as icy patches may form overnight on bridges and overpasses. Commuters along I-40 and I-30 should allow extra travel time Tuesday morning.
Looking ahead, Tuesday and Wednesday will bring sunny skies and daytime highs near 36 degrees. Winds will ease slightly midweek, providing some relief. By Thursday night, a slight chance of snow or sprinkles is forecast, with a 50% chance of snow lingering into Friday.
The National Weather Service advises Arkansans to monitor updates for potential winter weather impacts late this week. Now is a good time to check emergency kits and ensure homes are prepared for cold weather.
Bundle up, Arkansas, and plan ahead for the frigid week ahead.
