Texarkana, AR – A massive winter storm is wreaking havoc across the southern U.S., bringing heavy snow and ice to Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Snowfall totals of up to 8 inches are expected by Friday, creating treacherous conditions for millions.

The National Weather Service reports that the storm began sweeping through the region Thursday afternoon, affecting portions of southeast Oklahoma, northeast Texas, southwest Arkansas, and northwest Louisiana. Heavy mixed precipitation, with snow accumulations ranging from 2 to 6 inches, and isolated ice buildup up to one-third of an inch, will continue through Friday noon.

Hazardous travel conditions are a major concern. Officials warn that roads, especially bridges and overpasses, are becoming slick and dangerous. Wind gusts and snow accumulation could down power lines, causing sporadic outages across the region. The storm is expected to impact evening commutes Thursday and Friday morning, with freezing temperatures worsening conditions overnight.

Travelers are advised to delay trips whenever possible. If travel is unavoidable, keep emergency supplies such as flashlights, food, and water in your vehicle. Experts recommend driving cautiously, avoiding sudden stops or turns, and allowing extra time to reach your destination.

This storm is among the strongest of the season, affecting millions across multiple states. Residents should monitor local forecasts and dial 511 for real-time road condition updates.
