Little Rock, Arkansas – Scattered summer storms could rattle parts of central and southeast Arkansas today, but a deeper concern is building just behind them: dangerous heat. Temperatures will surge into the mid-90s by Wednesday in Little Rock, with heat indices approaching 100°F heading into the July 4th holiday.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, isolated to scattered storms are expected across central to southeast Arkansas Tuesday afternoon into the evening. The main hazards include strong wind gusts, small hail, and brief heavy rain. Areas along and south of I-30, including Pine Bluff and Arkadelphia, may experience localized downpours during peak commuting hours.

By Wednesday, hot and humid air returns in full force. Little Rock is expected to hit 92°F with mostly sunny skies, and that trend continues through Independence Day on Thursday, when highs may top 94°F. Calm morning winds will shift southeast by afternoon, contributing to rising heat index values. NWS officials suggest outdoor workers take frequent breaks and stay hydrated.

The July 4th weekend remains mostly dry but brutally hot. Heat advisories could be needed by Friday as temperatures climb even higher. No organized severe weather is expected beyond Tuesday, but isolated storms may develop again Sunday and Monday.

Five-Day Forecast (July 2–6):

  • Wednesday: Mostly sunny, high 92°F, calm winds becoming east.
  • Thursday: Mostly sunny, high 93°F, southeast winds 5 mph.
  • Friday (Independence Day): Mostly sunny, high 94°F.
  • Saturday: Partly cloudy, low 75°F, high 96°F.
