LITTLE ROCK, AR — Severe thunderstorms are set to impact Arkansas this week, with dangerous conditions expected from Tuesday through Thursday. Heavy rainfall, strong winds, and the possibility of tornadoes will affect areas across the state, with the northwest region seeing the worst of it.

According to the National Weather Service, the threat of flash flooding is elevated due to repeated storm activity, particularly in northwest Arkansas. Rainfall amounts are forecasted to range from 1 to 3 inches, with areas around Fayetteville, Fort Smith, and Russellville seeing the heaviest downpours. These conditions could lead to localized flash flooding, especially in flood-prone areas.

In addition to flooding, severe weather on Tuesday afternoon and night will bring large hail and winds up to 60 mph. A tornado or two is possible, particularly in the northern half of the state, where the Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk of tornadoes. Residents of Fayetteville, Harrison, and surrounding areas should prepare for hazardous conditions and monitor local alerts.

The storm system will shift eastward by Wednesday, bringing additional heavy rainfall to Little Rock, Pine Bluff, and areas to the south. Residents should expect up to 1 inch of rain, while the southeast could see lower totals. Those in affected areas are urged to stay informed, avoid unnecessary travel, and prepare for potential power outages and road closures.

The weather is expected to improve by Thursday, but more severe storms could be possible. Stay tuned for updates and keep an emergency kit ready in case of severe weather.
