Little Rock, AR – A strong weather system is moving across Arkansas today, bringing showers, thunderstorms, and the potential for severe storms. Southeast Arkansas faces the highest risk for damaging winds, hail, and even isolated tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, the severe weather threat will peak this afternoon and evening. The greatest risks include wind gusts up to 80 mph and hail up to the size of golf balls. Tornadoes are possible, particularly in areas east of Pine Bluff and south of I-40. Residents are advised to monitor weather alerts closely and have a plan in place if warnings are issued.

Heavy rain may lead to localized flash flooding in low-lying areas. Drivers traveling along I-30 or I-40 should exercise caution as visibility could be significantly reduced during the storms. Showers are expected to continue overnight before clearing early Sunday morning.

Looking ahead, Sunday will bring relief with sunny skies and highs around 63°F. Monday and Tuesday remain mild, with temperatures in the mid-60s and mostly clear conditions. By New Year’s Day, the forecast predicts sunny skies with a cooler high of 49°F.

Stay updated on the evolving weather situation by tuning into local forecasts and keeping your NOAA weather radio handy. Avoid unnecessary travel during severe conditions and remain indoors when warnings are issued.
