Little Rock, AR – Arkansas has experienced 52 tornadoes in 2024, exceeding the state’s annual average of 37 storms. Of these, 31 were classified as EF1, 10 as EF0, and six as EF2. Three EF3 tornadoes were also confirmed, making this year significantly more active.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Little Rock, 27 tornadoes occurred in May, the most active month. The remnants of Hurricane Beryl contributed to 10 tornadoes, marking the state’s largest outbreak on record. Six of the most recent tornadoes formed earlier this month on November 3 and 4.
Historically, Arkansas records the most tornadoes in spring, with 56.6% occurring from March to May. This year, severe weather trends have persisted into the fall, with notable activity in November.
The NWS advises residents to stay prepared as tornadoes remain possible through winter. Cooler weather is forecast for the upcoming days, providing a break from storms.
