Tulsa, OK – Thunderstorms with dangerous lightning are expected to sweep across Eastern Oklahoma overnight Wednesday, bringing a wet and potentially disruptive end to the day.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, storms will continue to develop and push southeast into parts of eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas tonight. While the overall severe threat is low, lightning remains a significant hazard, especially for areas from Muskogee to McAlester and Fort Smith, Arkansas. Storms are expected to weaken by early Thursday, but lingering activity could redevelop later in the day.

Drivers on U.S. Route 69 and I-40 should be prepared for slick roads and brief downpours overnight. Rain chances hover around 70% in Tulsa through early morning hours, with additional activity possible Thursday afternoon. Friday and Sunday appear dry, but another round of storms may arrive by Saturday night.

If you’re heading out tonight, remember — lightning can strike miles from the storm. Stay indoors and avoid travel if thunder is audible.

Storm chances return this weekend and early next week as a warm, humid pattern keeps the region unsettled. More updates are expected Thursday if storm redevelopment occurs.
