Little Rock, Ark. – A dangerous heat wave is tightening its grip across Arkansas, with heat index values surging to 109°F and a Heat Advisory in effect until 9 p.m. Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, the advisory covers much of central, eastern, and southern Arkansas—including Pulaski, Saline, Garland, White, and Jefferson counties. Daily highs in the mid to upper 90s combined with high humidity are pushing “feels like” temps well into triple digits.
Cities like Little Rock, Hot Springs, and Pine Bluff are seeing afternoon heat indices over 105°F. Scattered thunderstorms may bring brief relief, but the threat for organized storms remains low. Outdoor workers are urged to take frequent breaks and stay hydrated, while residents should limit activity during the peak heat of the day.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling outdoor labor for early morning or evening hours. Symptoms of heat exhaustion—dizziness, nausea, or heavy sweating—require immediate attention. Call 911 in the event of heat stroke.
With no major cooldown expected, residents should prepare for hot, muggy conditions through the weekend. More advisories may follow if temperatures stay elevated.
