TULSA, Okla. – Residents across southeastern Oklahoma and west-central Arkansas should prepare for a soggy and potentially hazardous end to the workweek, with widespread rain raising the risk of flooding. The heaviest downpours are expected to arrive Wednesday and continue intermittently through Friday night, bringing the potential for both flash flooding and rises on mainstem rivers.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, the region could see widespread rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches by Saturday morning. Some isolated areas, particularly in southeastern Oklahoma and west-central Arkansas, could receive higher amounts nearing 5 inches. Recent heavy rains have saturated the ground, meaning any new significant rainfall will have difficulty soaking in, increasing the runoff and immediate flood concerns.

The primary areas facing a slight risk for excessive rainfall include a corridor stretching from near McAlester, Oklahoma, eastward toward Fayetteville, Arkansas. This includes cities like Fort Smith and Mena, Arkansas, which are susceptible to rapid flooding from intense rainfall. Those living in flood-prone areas are advised to monitor local conditions closely and be prepared for potential advisories.

Motorists should use extreme caution and never attempt to drive through flooded roadways. The timing of the heaviest rain remains uncertain but is expected to be confined to small areas. Residents should keep checking for updated weather information as the storm system develops throughout the week.
