Hot Spring County, AR – A flash flood warning remains in effect until 3 p.m. Thursday for eastern Hot Spring County following the release of floodgates at Remmel Dam, causing significant water flow downstream on the Ouachita River.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, dam operators increased water releases to 52,000 cubic feet per second, posing a serious flood risk to nearby communities. The towns of Jones Mill, Friendship, Midway, and Oak Grove are expected to experience rising water levels, with some low-lying roads becoming impassable.

Authorities warn that floodwaters could impact the Interstate 30 bridge near Malvern within the next two hours, with further downstream areas such as Donaldson and Friendship seeing rising waters over the next 6 to 12 hours. Residents in flood-prone areas are urged to move to higher ground immediately.

Officials stress the importance of avoiding flooded roadways, as driving into high water is a leading cause of weather-related fatalities. The public should monitor local updates and adhere to evacuation recommendations.
