Memphis, TN – A flash flood warning has been issued for parts of eastern Arkansas and southeastern Missouri as heavy rain continues to drench the region. The National Weather Service in Memphis announced the alert at 1:29 p.m. CST, warning that flash flooding is either ongoing or imminent.
According to emergency management, between two and three inches of rain have already fallen across Clay and Greene counties in Arkansas, as well as Dunklin and Pemiscot counties in Missouri. Additional rainfall is expected, increasing the risk of flooding in urban areas, highways, and low-lying regions.
Flood-prone locations include Kennett, Caruthersville, Malden, Piggott, Corning, and Hayti. Officials urge residents to avoid flooded roads, as most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles.
The warning remains in effect until 4:30 p.m. CST. Drivers should use caution, and residents in affected areas should be prepared for rapidly rising water. Updates will be provided by the National Weather Service as conditions develop.
