Tucson, AZ – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for Arizona’s high-elevation areas, with heavy snowfall and strong winds expected from Thursday afternoon through early Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, the advisory applies to elevations above 7,000 feet in the Catalina, Rincon, White, Galiuro, and Pinaleno Mountains. Snowfall totals between 5 to 10 inches are expected, with localized areas receiving up to 12 inches. Winds could gust as high as 55 mph, creating blowing snow and brief blizzard-like conditions.
The advisory is in place from 2 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday, potentially making travel hazardous, particularly in the evening. Reduced visibility due to blowing snow and strong winds may lead to dangerous driving conditions. Tree branches and power lines could also be affected by the gusty winds.
Residents and travelers in the impacted areas are urged to exercise caution. Those driving should reduce speed and be prepared for sudden visibility reductions. For updated road conditions, visit www.az511.gov or call 511.
This late-season snowstorm is expected to bring significant winter weather impacts to southern Arizona’s mountainous regions before tapering off Friday morning.
