Flagstaff, AZ – A winter weather advisory is in effect for parts of northern Arizona, with heavy snow and strong winds expected to impact travel through Thursday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, snow will begin early Thursday morning across the Western Mogollon Rim, including Flagstaff, Williams, and Munds Park. Accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are expected, with Flagstaff seeing the highest totals. Winds will gust between 40 and 50 mph, creating hazardous conditions for drivers, especially during the Thursday morning commute.

Meanwhile, the Kaibab Plateau, including Jacob Lake, will see snowfall beginning at 5 p.m. Wednesday, continuing through 11 p.m. Thursday. Snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches are expected above 6,500 feet, with winds gusting as high as 45 mph. Travel in this area is not recommended due to reduced visibility and snow-covered roads.

Officials urge residents to use caution while traveling and check road conditions before heading out. Bridges and overpasses will be particularly slick. For the latest updates on road closures, visit az511.gov or call 511.

Drivers are advised to slow down and be prepared for winter conditions. Strong winds may also lead to falling tree branches, increasing potential hazards.
