Tucson, Ariz. – Triple-digit heat and scattered thunderstorms will dominate southern Arizona Saturday, threatening travel and outdoor plans across the Tucson area. The National Weather Service warns that lightning, sudden downpours, and brief gusty winds could impact key travel corridors, including Interstate 10, especially in the afternoon and evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, Saturday’s high is expected to reach 98°F with a 50% chance of thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Rainfall could lead to ponding on roads, making commutes dangerous. Light and variable morning winds will shift southwest at 5 to 7 mph, with stronger gusts possible near storms.

Localized flooding is possible in washes and low-lying neighborhoods. Residents should avoid driving through standing water and secure outdoor items that could blow away. Power outages may occur if storms bring down branches or power lines.

Storm chances taper Saturday night, with partly cloudy skies and lows near 77°F. Sunday will be hotter, reaching 100°F with only a slight afternoon storm chance.

Heat will intensify early next week, with Monday and Tuesday topping 102°F to 104°F and minimal storm activity. Hydration, shade, and limiting outdoor work during peak afternoon hours will be essential to avoid heat-related illness.
