Phoenix, Arizona – A surge of tropical moisture from the south will bring widespread showers and a notable cool-down across Arizona and southeast California from late Saturday through early Monday, with the heaviest rainfall expected Sunday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, moisture from Tropical Storm Alvin will be pulled into the region by a low-pressure system near the Baja Peninsula, raising rain chances to nearly 70% Sunday night. Thunderstorms remain possible, with a 15–25% chance across central and southern Arizona. Isolated strong storms could produce gusty winds and pockets of blowing dust, especially in open desert areas.
Cities including Phoenix, Tucson, Casa Grande, and Yuma can expect between 0.25 to 0.50 inches of rain, with locally higher totals possible in thunderstorms. Temperatures will dip 5 to 7 degrees below seasonal norms starting Sunday, offering brief relief from the early summer heat.
Motorists are urged to use caution on wet roadways and during any blowing dust events. Residents should secure outdoor items and remain weather-aware throughout the weekend.
Rain chances taper off early Monday, but further updates may be issued if storm strength or rainfall totals increase.
