Mesa, Arizona – Heat alerts are ramping up across Arizona as dangerous triple-digit temperatures take hold starting Sunday, with Mesa bracing for a brutal stretch that could bring a high of 109°F by late afternoon. An Extreme Heat Watch is already in effect for Tuesday, with National Weather Service officials warning of consecutive days topping 110°F through at least Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, Mesa will see highs of 109°F on Sunday, 111°F Monday, and another 111°F Tuesday—with Tuesday night lows only dipping to 88°F. The agency warns the heat risk will be widespread and prolonged, increasing the threat of heat-related illness, especially for those without access to adequate cooling. Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours and check on elderly neighbors and pets.

City impacts include increased energy demand, possible rolling blackouts, and reduced air quality. Drivers along US-60 and Loop 202 should remain alert to overheated vehicles and tire blowouts on hot pavement. Outdoor workers are urged to take frequent shaded breaks and drink plenty of fluids.

This marks one of the hottest stretches of summer so far in the East Valley, with Phoenix metro temperatures climbing steadily all week. Cooling centers across Maricopa County are expected to see higher traffic starting Monday.

Warnings remain in place through at least Thursday evening, with more advisories possible if overnight lows continue rising.
