FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Drivers in northern Arizona should prepare for hazardous travel Saturday as a strong round of thunderstorms targets the Flagstaff area. Gusty winds, heavy rainfall, and possible flooding along I-40 could create dangerous road conditions from late morning into the evening.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and storms are likely between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., with an additional round possible after dark. Rainfall rates may be high enough to cause localized flooding, especially in low-lying and burn scar areas. Winds could gust up to 29 mph, making travel difficult for high-profile vehicles.

The unsettled weather will linger into Saturday night with additional showers possible before tapering toward sunrise Sunday. Residents should secure outdoor items, avoid driving through flooded roads, and be alert for changing conditions if recreating in area forests.

Sunday will bring a brief break with mostly clear skies, though more storms could return early next week. Temperatures will remain seasonable, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s and cooler nights near 50°F.
