Flagstaff, AZ – Unseasonably warm temperatures and gusty southwest winds are creating elevated fire weather concerns across northern Arizona through Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service Flagstaff, high temperatures across the region are trending well above normal, with areas near Flagstaff reaching the upper 70s to low 80s. Concurrently, strong wind gusts between 25 to 35 mph are expected to intensify throughout the afternoon, particularly across Coconino, Yavapai, and Navajo counties.

These weather conditions—warm, dry, and breezy—are contributing to near-critical fire weather, especially in forested and grassland areas. The NWS warns residents and travelers that any ignition could spread rapidly due to the wind patterns.

Winds are forecasted to peak late Wednesday afternoon before gradually diminishing into the evening. Cooler air is expected to arrive by Thursday, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures to the high country.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, secure loose materials, and stay alert for changing fire conditions. Those recreating or traveling across northern Arizona should monitor updates at weather.gov/fgz for the latest advisories.

While no Red Flag Warning has been issued yet, officials stress vigilance due to the near-critical fire potential in the region.
