Phoenix, Arizona – Brutal heat is set to blanket south-central Arizona starting Saturday, with Phoenix projected to hit 109°F and stay dangerously hot through Monday. The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for the metro and surrounding cities, warning of a high risk for heat-related illness, especially for outdoor workers and vulnerable populations.
According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, the alert runs from 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14 through 8 p.m. Monday, June 16, with expected afternoon highs ranging between 106°F and 114°F. Cities under the warning include Glendale, Mesa, Avondale, Goodyear, Surprise, and others along Loop 101 and Loop 202.
Residents are urged to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, drink plenty of water, and wear lightweight clothing. Public cooling centers are available in Maricopa County, and residents can call 2-1-1 or visit maricopa.gov/heat for locations.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration also recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned spaces. Symptoms of heat exhaustion include dizziness, headache, and nausea. Heat stroke is a medical emergency — call 911 immediately if someone shows signs.
