Phoenix, Arizona – Triple-digit heat and high ozone pollution levels are poised to make outdoor activity dangerous in Phoenix starting Friday.

According to the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, an Ozone High Pollution Advisory has been issued for Friday, June 6, across Maricopa County, including the entire Phoenix Metro Area. This advisory comes as temperatures are expected to climb to 104°F, with light afternoon winds and sunny skies — a combination that traps pollutants and worsens respiratory conditions.

Health officials urge residents to avoid strenuous outdoor activity, particularly children, seniors, and people with asthma or other respiratory conditions. Commuters are asked to carpool, use public transit, or telecommute, especially along Interstate 10, where vehicle emissions concentrate. Limit use of gas-powered tools until after dark.

Friday kicks off a stretch of intense heat for Phoenix, with highs holding near or above 104°F through the weekend. Winds will stay light, and skies remain cloudless — offering little relief. While no excessive heat warning has been issued yet, residents should stay hydrated and avoid prolonged sun exposure between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.

No rain is in sight through early next week, and with ozone levels already high, sensitive groups should stay indoors during peak heat hours.

More advisories could follow as the stagnant weather pattern holds.
