Flagstaff, AZ – Travelers along the I-40 corridor should prepare for gusty winds and a chance of rain on Wednesday. With Thanksgiving travel underway, local forecasts indicate challenging conditions could disrupt plans for those passing through northern Arizona.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a 40% chance of showers will develop Wednesday morning, particularly near Flagstaff and areas around the Kaibab Plateau. Winds are expected to increase significantly, with gusts reaching 37 mph today and potentially 24 mph on Wednesday. These conditions may impact visibility and driving safety, particularly for high-profile vehicles.
Looking ahead, Wednesday night could see a slight chance of rain mixed with snow in elevations above 7,000 feet, though accumulation is not anticipated. Thanksgiving Day will bring sunny skies and cooler temperatures, with a high near 47°F and calmer winds, making it ideal for holiday gatherings.
Friday and the weekend promise mostly sunny weather with temperatures in the low 50s, offering perfect conditions for outdoor activities or travel. However, travelers returning on Saturday night should be prepared for partly cloudy skies and colder overnight lows in the 20s.
Motorists traveling on I-40 or I-17 should remain cautious and check for updates from the NWS or ADOT regarding road and weather conditions. Those with plans in the higher elevations are advised to dress warmly and monitor temperatures that could drop as low as 22°F overnight.
Stay informed and plan accordingly to ensure a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday.
