Flagstaff, Ariz. – Dry skies across northern Arizona will give way to thunderstorm activity beginning late Saturday, with rain and isolated storms expected to linger through Memorial Day.
According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, a low-pressure system pushing north from Mexico will bring a 10–20% chance of storms late Saturday, increasing to 50% on Sunday and up to 50% again Monday morning. Areas including Flagstaff, Prescott, and Tuba City could see brief downpours, gusty winds, and lightning through the extended holiday weekend.
Temperatures will remain warm ahead of the system, peaking near 90°F Friday across much of the region. But rain-cooled air will bring cooler highs Sunday and Monday, with Flagstaff only reaching 65°F on Memorial Day. Cities like Payson, Camp Verde, and Winslow may also see reduced daytime temps and slick roads during peak travel periods.
Travelers are urged to use caution on I-40 and State Route 89A, especially during late-day storm windows. Those camping or hiking should be prepared to shelter quickly and avoid exposed ridgelines.
The storm system may continue shifting through the state Monday afternoon. Further updates and any severe alerts will be issued by the National Weather Service.
