Tucson, AZ – A Blowing Dust Advisory is in effect for parts of Arizona, Texas, and New Mexico, with strong winds expected to create hazardous driving conditions through Monday night.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), eastern Cochise County and the Upper Gila River Valley in Arizona will experience blowing dust from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. MST on Monday, reducing visibility to as low as a quarter-mile. Winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph, are expected.

In Texas, the advisory covers multiple western counties, including Gaines, Dawson, and Midland, lasting until 9 p.m. CST Sunday. Wind gusts could reach up to 40 mph, with visibility dropping to one mile or less.

New Mexico’s Lea County and areas along the Van Horn Highway 54 Corridor will also be affected, with similar visibility reductions and wind speeds reaching up to 55 mph. Additionally, a High Wind Warning is in place for the Eddy County Plains in New Mexico and Eastern Culberson County in Texas, where gusts could reach 75 mph through Tuesday evening.

Motorists are urged to use caution, as sudden dust storms can create near-zero visibility. Officials recommend pulling off the road, turning off lights, and avoiding braking during low-visibility conditions. Residents with respiratory conditions should stay indoors.

Travelers should monitor local weather alerts and plan for potential delays.
